What is This Object?

In our work we’ve found a few objects that we did not recognize.  If you think you have an idea what an item is, please let us know!


…and with your help, some of these mysteries have been SOLVED!

Thanks to Jim Thompson for helping us to identify this:

as a “breast strap slip” (see the Sears and Roebuck catalog).  It is used on a harness, below the collar

And thanks again to Mr. Thompson for identifying this:

as the remaining part of a hame, now that the wooden part has rotted away.  A horse or mule would have one of these on each side of their collar.

And thanks to Chelsey for recognizing this:

as a shutter dog, used to hold back exterior window shutters

    Item No. 3 looks like a “shutter dog,” a fixture used to hold back exterior house shutters.
